Show Two make display of artistry The Utah Arts Council is pleased to announce the 85th anniversary celebration of "UTAH '84", the Council's visual arts competition and exhibition. A project of the Council since 1899, Utah '84 opens July 8 at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts on the University of Utah campus and runs through September 2. The public is invited to attend the opening reception and awards presentation to be held J uly 8 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Utah '84 offers a pleasing varity of visual arte techniques and styles as demonstrated by Utah artists. More than 700 entries were submitted this year in the diverse media of crafts, graphics, mixed media, painting, photography, sculpture and watercolor. Utah '84 judges included James Haseltine, artist and past director of the Salt Lake Art Center and the Washington Commission on the Arts, and George Neubert, Director of the Museum of Art, University of Nebraska. Those from Pleasant Grove and their entry are: Marcia Morten sen Bales, an oil painting of Lake Powell selling for $1,500; and Jenni Christensen, an etching of Summer Poppies selling for $500. It received a UAC Cash Award. |
