Show Police chief resigns lindon City Police Chief IiOon Liws resigned from his position Monday, April 23, according to Mayor Ken McMillan. The mayor noted that the resignation followed discussions the city council had held on the upcoming fiscal budget. He explained that the city is going to have a revenue shortfall partially due to dicreased sales taxes this year. As a result, the city council is looking at alternative solutions to decrease expenses, he said. One idea which has been suggested is to disband the Ijndon Police Department, which has the highest budget in the city. If the police department was dropped then Iindon would contract with a neighboring city for 24 hour police protection. Mayor McMillan stressed, however, that this plan was only a suggestion and no decisions had been made at this time. Mr. Laws said, "I can't agree with the fact that they (the council) are going to contract with another agency for police service. Lindon City really needs and deserves a police department of their own." He also stated that he had enjoyed working in Lindon and felt he had made a lot of friends here. He said he appreciated the opportunity to serve the citizens of Lindon. There will be a" public hearing on May 16 at the Lindon Elementary School at 7 p.m. where residents can make comments regarding the city and police budgets. Anyone unable to attend the meeting, who would like to comment, may write letters to the mayor or call him on the telephone. |
