Show Sophs Defeat Bulldogs The sophomore football team closed the season with a thrilling 13-12 win over Provo on the Bulldog field last Thursday. Trailing 12-7 with 1 : 16 to play, Matt Norman fired a strike to Shane Phillips in the end zone to climax a 40 yard drive. Phillips made a great catch between two defenders to give PG their fifth win in eight games. PG scored in four plays on the opening drive. Phil Cook ran for 12 and eight yards and Norman passed to Shaun Bezzant to the two yard line. From there, Neil Peterson put the ball across the goaline on a quar terback sneak and Cook added the crucial extra point with a perfect kick. Early in the third period, Provo picked off a Viking pass and ran 36 yards to score. A two point run attempt at-tempt was short. When the Bulldogs got the ball again, they executed 'a perfect "center screen pass," good for 47 yards. The two point run was stopped by a fine defensive play from Jim Trinnaman and Emerson Davis. The sophs finished the year with a 5-3 5-3 record and were in every game they played. The three losses were by a total of 18 points. |
