Bank of Pleasant Grove By Kay L. Jacobs President. Published in Pleasant Grove Review, Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 1979. Qty Council Has Varied Business Continued from Page 1 gress payments for work completed at the central park. The council voted to authorize payment for work com-pleted to date. Relative to a problem with what ap-pears to be defective pipe used in the sprinkling system at the park, Mr. Wimmer indicated that a letter has been sent to the contractor indicating that an extension of the guarantee period on the pipe should be granted for an additional three years so that if additional breaks appear the contrac-tor will be responsible for these repairs, n The width of the road on 900 East above Loader Drive was discussed by Mr. Wimmer. He suggesated that the city maintain a road width on this street which would allow for thirty six feet of asphalt. The council ap-proved its recommendation. Mr. Wimmer reported that a grant ap-plication is being sent to the Four Corners Regional Commission asking for funds to do a storm drainage study for the city. Councilman Mills discussed the problem of drainage water and sug-gested that the majority of the building moratorium be placed in the city until the water drainage plan is complete. Several of the council members ex-pressed concern about such a moritorium and the mayor suggested that additional time be spent in reviewing the ramifications of such an action. The council voted to postpone action on this moratorium indefinitely and indicated they felt that present provisions of the city code assure compliance to eliminating the related development problems. The problem with connecting a home located on 600 East to the sewer was discussed with the engineer. Councilman West will work with Mr. Wimmer to work out an aceptable solution to the problem. Concerning surface water coming from the Timpanogos Meadows sub-division located on 100 West, Mr. Wimmer noted that to be able to put this water in the 1100 North pipeline would require approval from the ir-rigation company. The city will con-tact the company about obtaining this approval. Walter Parker, owner of Lindon Garbage Pickup Company was pre-sent at the meeting and asked how, if a part of the Manila area is annexed, will garbage pickup and billing be handled. It was suggested that until city services are extended into the area and a billing routine established that Mr. Parker continue to bill these people as he is doing at the present time. Concerning the requirement for mandatory garbage pickup, the coun-cil felt that this would be required of the subdivided areas, but not the agricultural areas. Representatives from the Pleasant Grove Mobile Home Estates Control Committee met with the council and asked that the city assist the commit-tee in having the west side of Geneva Road cleaned and improved with curb and gutter. The council noted that the provi-sions of the amended plat required the developer to install these street improvements and the performance agreement with the developer will be reviewed and the provisions enforced. The council discussed the minutes of the planning commission held September 19th. Relative to the road design on 200 South street the coun-cil noted that the standard collector roads is to provide for aplanter strip between the curb and gutter and sidewalk. It was noted that at the church at about 1250 East had a dif-ferent sidewalk design and that this may require some modification in the plan. Jeniel Humble, representing the Valley View PTA asked for the coun-cil support for having the bookmobile to stop in Pleasant Grove. It was noted that this vehicle now stops on-ly in Alpine and Lindon and that the county officials have indicated that they do not have enough funds to pro-vide stops in Pleasant Grove. The council voted to sign a resolution re-questing the county commission to considering allowing the bookmobile to stop in Pleasant Grove. John Backlund, city attorney, discussed various suits filed by and filed against the city. Concerning the challange to the present distribution of sales tax Mr. Backlund reported this suit has been filed and some con-tact by the court is now expected. The council approved the hiring of Douglas Bezzant as a full time employee in the parks department. Concerning a pump house at the rodeo grounds the council authorized repair of this building to protect the valuable equipment housed there. It was reported that the state has allocated $2,230.00 for use in continu-ing the low income housing assistance program. The council ap-proved purchase of a truck to be used in the water department for meter reading and related department work. Relative to use of the city library by county residents the coun-cil voted to raise this yearly fee from $2 to $5 to help in paying for the operation of the library. The council discussed the need to obtain completion bonds for the Wade Springs Subdivision. It was decided to contact the new developer of the property and indicated that the necessary guarantees need to be given the city to assure that the re-quired improvements will be install-ed. A list of candidates to be judges of election was presented by the mayor. The council voted to approve the peo-ple on the list and authorized notifica-tion to be sent by the recorder to these people. |
