Ron Holman, Walker Mobile 5 CITY SOFTBALL g Packs won the city softball jc championship last Wednesday with two straight wins over 5 Carters and Kazco. j? Alan Green scattered eight jc hits while his Pack teammates K pounded out 15 in beating 5 Carters Wes Duvall was 5 four for four at the plate for the X winners. 5 In the second game of the 5 three way playoff, Packs 0 scored four runs on five hits in jc the top half of the first inning went on to down Kazco Land Walkers' single was followed by John Becks' double. Colby Adamson sacrificed and Duvall and Green singled. Jack Hill's triple drove in two giving Packs an early 0 lead. In the fourth, Duvall walked, Green doubled and two sacrifice flies, one by Hill and one off the bat of Mike Schoell added two runs to Packs total. Grant Atkinson singled to lead off in the fourth and scored on Becks double for Packs last run. Kazco rallied in the seventh. Dell Young singled, Whitey Ratliff sacrificed him to second Utility, Clarence Wilson, Kazco X By vote of the eight coaches,Q the following league d team was chosen. Where twox players tied, at shortstop, third base and the outfield, bothp players were honored. TheQ coaches could not vote forx members of their own team.X Pitcher, Alan Green, Packs All-Sta- Tie The league all-st- game ended in a tie. By agreement of both coaches it was decided to play seven innings and quit. When the last out was posted, the score was 4 and that's the way it ended. and Rick Cook hit the "alley" in left center for a triple to score Young. Queen Bees 5Dandy Darlings 6.BiIlie Busters WBT' The Silly Sluggers catured first place in the season ending tournament last Wednesday by beating the League Cham-pions, the Lucky Ladies of Lindon. Julie Poulson, coach of the Silly Sluggers and JoLyn Smith and Kriket Nielsen, coaches of the Lindon Lucky Ladies are to be congratulated for the fine seasons. SPORTSMANSHIP The Billie Busters, coached by Becky Jacklin and Jan Smith won the Sportsmanship trophy. Randall Speaks Jan Randall expressed thanks to all the coaches, umpires, parents and especially the 80 girls who helped make this new recreation program a success this year. She also thanked head umpire Lee Gillman, Jon Hoover and the grounds crew and Bill Hoglund city recreation director. m ',,. Recreation Sponsoring Golf Tourney at Tri-Ci- ty On Aug 14th at the Tri City Goulf Course Pleasant Grove City recreation will be spon-soring a golf tournament for men and women in the city including Lindon and Manilla. Participants must register by Aug. 5th with Paul Schoonover at 50 South 500 East, Pleasant Grove or The fee of $6.00 for men and $3.00 for women which include green fee. a soft drink and 5 tees. The tournament format will include an "A", "B" and "C" flight for men and an "A" and "B" flight for women. Flights will be determined by a special handicap method explained before tournament. Trophies will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place in each flight. We hope to accommodate working scheduels by arranging tee times set up in advance. We hope to have good par-ticipation in this activity and lots of fun. Beginners have as good a chance as the advanced golfer. So come renew adquaintances with our neigh-bors. Mid-seaso- n champions were crowned at the July 24th race at Roundabout. Craig Chynoweth took the Modified title, Danny Houston the Super Stock and John Kumz from Santana the Stock. John Leftwich well known Suntana competitor was at the track with his Modified and he won the trophy dash. Danny Houston was given a special award of a security blanket and used it well in the Super Stock main event as he took the win after a roudy fifteen laps. Melvin Radmall was out for the first time with his im-maculate Super Stock and timed in fastest in the class, he also made the trek to Suntana the same evening to run on the asphalt. Trophy dash in the Super stock class was won by Don West as he pulled the lead from start to finsih. Don then did a re-ru- n in the heat race and once again took the checkered flag. In the Stock trophy dash it was Gordeon Wright. This class has twenty cars and Gordon was one of the four fastest. In the Modified heat race Chynoweth took the win and Jack Elwell pushed John Leftwich over the west turn. In the Super Stock slow heat it was Owen Farley into the lead with Grant Leonard fighting all the way but Owen took the win. The slow heat of the stock class showed Reed Groo taking the win and Steve Hansen winning the fast heat. The stock main was exciting as Steve Hansen had the event all sewed up until a woman driver truned in front of him, he played the part of a gentleman and waited for her and thats all it took for Steve Turner to dash into the lead and the win. The days event was ended with the Fathers race which was won by Pete Campbell and MAYOR WINS Mayor climbs in car and finally beats Frank Mills last Saturday. In censored picture he got a reward and a checkered flag when the race was over. then the Mayor took on Frank Mills with Mayor Haynie taking the win. Special awards of belt buckles with Roundabout Raceway inscribed on them were given to Pete Campbell, Steve Frampton, Blaine Grey, Kent Roundy, Kim Frampton, Theron Nay, Kirk Frampton, Kathy Frampton, Mike Campbell, and John Sorensen. |
