Defensive' Driving Course Being Given At Provo "Professional driving tactics are being offered through the Defensive Driving Course being sponsored by the Safety Coun-cil of Utah County," Mr. J. Earl Johnson, Safety Director announced this week. This eight-hou- r course was designed by the National Saf-ety Council," he said, "and was patterned after a course offered to professional drivers who operate fleet vehicles over millions of accident-fre- e miles of streets and highways." "The driving records of these individuals are most outstand-ing," he commented, "and the individual driver can learn from their driving record." The course, he pointed out, will be held in the Utah Tech-nical College (room and will commence Monday, Aug. 4. It contiues on each Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. until the four sessions have been completed. "This is an adult course," Mr. Johnson emphasized, "and is available to any already licensed driver in the immedi-ate area. It is intended as a refresher course to enable the driver to sharpen his driving techniques. Of the thousands of Utah drivers completing the course, high praise is the most common comment made. Drivers often express great gratitude for learning a new maneuver which aids them in preventing a traffic mishap." There is a small enrollment fee to cover the cost of mater-ials and supplies used in in-structing the course. Safety Hunter Training Deadline Near As the first of Utah's 1969 big game hunting seasons are near-in- g, the Division of Fish and Game issued a reminder to all first-tim- e juvenile hunters that they must qualify through a hunter safety course before becoming eligible to buy a hunting license. State law requires any person under 21 years of age to show a proper certificate when applying for their first hunting license. Those over 16 may present a certificate showing they have passed equivalent training in the armed services, ROTC, NRA or show their hunting license from a previous year. For information on a training class in your area, you may call the Fish and Game office nearest you or contact your local Conser-vation Officer. All hunters 16 and under must show the blue hunter safety card as proof of passing the hunter safety course when purchasing any hunting license. |
