Show Boy Scouts Launch Program :or Better World Farragut State Park, Idaho For the Pleasant Grove Scouts and Explorers at the 7th National Nat-ional Jamboree, the 10-days of Jamboree advetunre ended when 4,000 balloons floated skyward in searchlight beams as 35,000 Scouts watched the closing arena show. The Balloons carried the personal committments of all Jamboree Scouts to return home and try to make his world a better place to live. The closing show of the free-world's free-world's greatest youth event was a series of emotion-packed presentations .including a display dis-play on three large screens of the historic moon walk featuring featur-ing brother Eagle Scout Neil Armstrong and his companion also formerly a Scout, Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. Additional tie-in to the keen Jamboree interest in the Lunar Mission was the presence of USAF Colonel Frank Bowman, commander of the Apollo 8 Lunar Orbit. Bowman, who watched the moon lading with President Richard Nixon, was the President's emissary to the Jamboree and he brough best wishes to each Scout from the White House. According to Don Brimley and Shirm Varney of Pleasant Grove, "The Jamboree has been a tremendous experience for the two Pleasant Grove boys. Not only did we have fun, but in our discussions with Scouts and Leaders from other parts of the country, we have arrived at some action programs we can incorporate back home to help improve our country." |
