Show Social Security Medicare Benefits Are Explained If you are one of millions of elderly Americans, you may have in your possession a card which may be your most valuable valu-able protection against the costs of hospital and doctor bills. This is, or course, your Health Insurance Card which shows that you have coverage under the social security medicare medi-care program. The medicare program is composed of two parts. The first is hospital insurance. This helps pay your hospital bills as well as certain health services ser-vices which are needed after you get out of the hospital. The second part of the medicare medi-care program helps pay your doctor bills. It also pays for certain medical supplies .laboratory .labor-atory tests, x-rays, and many other medical services. To become entitled to medicare medi-care starting with age 65 you must file an application one to 3 months before you are age 65. An early contact may save you inconvenience and loss of benefits. It will speed things up if you get a certified copy of your birth certificate. Also bring along a copy of last year's income tax return and W-2 form. Be prepared to make an estimate of the amount you expect ex-pect to earn this year. If you are unable to get this information, informa-tion, do not wait. Your social security representative will help you. Contact him at least three to six months before you are age 65. Your local Social Security office is located at 170 North 200 West, Provo, and is open weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. On Monday evenings eve-nings office hours are extended until 6:3 0p.m. |
