Show Hoys Haseball Toduraey The biggest athletic event in the history of this community will b; held here in Pleasant Grove August 4 through 8. It is the Utah Basball for Boys Association Junior League Tournament. According to Jack W. Tayor, President of the Utah Baseball for Boys Association, 32 teams will be in competition with a total of 640 boys participating. Teams will represent communities commun-ities from Lehi to the north and to Monticelo, Moab and Dove Creek, Colorado, to the southeast. The Colorado team played in the Monticello area league. Representing Pleasant Grove will be the Pirates, Utes and Cards. Also accompanying the teams will be their coaches and managers. All the ball games will be held at Pleasant Grove's newly completed Little League Ball Park. The new facility, the culmination cul-mination of a three-year struggle strug-gle by Boys Baseball enthusiasts, enthus-iasts, is located just west of the high school football field. For the first two days, two games will be played each hour, on the hour from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. During the following follow-ing three days, the number of games will diminish each day as the teams decrease due to the double elimination rules of the competition. Ten tournament trophies will be awarded, first to 9th places and consolation, Mr. Taylor said. Mr. Taylor is directing the tournament with Bill Hoglund, city recreation director and Blake Fordham, the founder of Boys Baseball in Utah. For Pleasant Grove, the tournamnet is the culmination of 1969 season of play, embracing embrac-ing 19 teams and 325 Little League players ,plus coaches and managers. Concession stands will be set up during all five days of the tournament with the net proceeds pro-ceeds going to the cost of the Little League park. Admission to all the games is free, but a $1 donation for the prizes will be accepted. Drawing for the prizes will take just place prior to the championship game, July 8. Prizes consist of a RCA color television set and two transis-ter transis-ter AM-FM radios. This tournament has been held in Utah for the last nine years, but this is the first year that Pleasant Grove has had the facilities to hold it, Mr. Taylor noted. While response to requests for people to house the visiting boys has been good, there is still need for more volunteers, Mr. Taylor emphasized.
