Show more water to be stored in yankee at a meeting of the stockholders of the yankee reservoir company held last friday night it was decided to build another ditch from the dark hollow countey to place an other stream in the yankee reservoir also to build another reservoir at the ed ward flat and to drill a new well at the four mile in paro wan canyon some time ago p i committee from froin the reservoir company and paro wan city made an inspection tour back into dark hollow where two creeks were diverted into the yankee two years ago and and discovered that with a minimum of work and money that another creek carrying a volume of water equals equalito equal to that in the two iwo originally diverted could be put into the reservoir after having the project surveyed the engineers reported that a canal feet long is all that would be required to put the water into one of the existing canals the county caterpillar cater piller was sent up the first of the week to do the work and to clean and make some changes in the present ditch putting another stream into thi the reservoir will make mace necessary yin to raise the present dams A sufficient base was laid at the time the dam on the north end of the reservoir was constructed to make it possible to raise the dam about 6 feet afeei without widening the base to any extent it was decided to do work and also to raise the dam on the west side of the reservoir for some time it has been proposed to build another reservoir bu be low the present one though no definite site was ever eve ls selected elected some feeling that the dam should be built in the lower end of the bowery valley and other holding that the ed ward flat was the place for it at the friday night meeting a committee headed by joseph F holyoak was instructed to make a survey of thie the sites and this corn com cittee with theron ashcraft engineer from the B A C after going over the projects decided that the ed ward alai would be the practical place by building the dam there carter creek a small stream coming from the upper end of bowery valley could be diverted from its present course and be impounded behind the dam the survey showed that by build ing a 10 foot dam a reservoir covering five acres could be built with an average depth of 4 feet R L halterman met with the company and explained a proposal to drill a new well at the four mile he explained that by drilling he thought it would be possible to obtain about one second foot of water that could be put into the city power system to compensate for the water that will be taken out of the system by diverting the proposed dark hollow creek into the yankee the cost of the first shaft would total about he said then if t sufficient water was reached to warrant further drilling and sinking a casing the additional cost would be 8 a foot and cross cutting would be 12 the opinion of f the meeting was to drill the well after the drilling operation is completed mr halterman told the group that it would be possible to pump the water by means of a flow line turbine |
