Show y C by Bea Kummer Former Parkite named All American Scholar '-IT ' v ' "' " ..' -' ;-' i The National Secondary Education Council (NSEC) announced that b Vanessa Grose has been named am All American Scholar.' ! The NSEC has established the Academic All American Scholar Award program in order to offer .deserved recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines. All American Scholars must earn a 3.3 or better grade average. Vanessa carried a 3.7 grade average and was an honor-roll student. She attended Kennedy Junior High School last year and was nominated by Kathy Dustman, a journalism teacher. Vanessa will appear in the All American Scholar Directory, which is published nationally. Dr. George Stevens, executive director of NSEC, said "Recognizing and supporting sup-porting our youth is more important than ever before in American history. "They should be congratulated and appreciated for their dedication to excellence and achievement." Vanessa excels in writing and has written many poems and stories and has also written and illustrated a children's book. She is taking a college col-lege art course. Vanessa was born and raised in Park City and is the daughter of Floyd and Carolyn Grose, who moved mov-ed to West Valley two years ago. We congratulate Vanessa and will look forward to seeing more of her accomplishments. The Womans Athenaeum held its regular meeting Monday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Building with president Donna Dearden officiating. of-ficiating. : The winter conference and spring convention dates were given. Hazel Gunderson gave a statistical report Vanessa Grose, All American Ameri-can Scholar on the district meetings. Peanut brittle will be made and sold as a fundraiser again this year. The financial report was given, also the total of the proceeds from the Labor Day food sale and the afghan that was given away. There were 10 members present and the bylaws were read and discussed. This was a very relaxed and enjoyable meeting. The Womans Athenaeum meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month except December and January.
