Show Wayn e Van Wago n e r dies in Salt Lake City car accident Oct. 31 Willi Wayne T. VanWagoner. Wayne Thomas VanWagoner, a Summit Park resident who often served as transportation consultant for Park City, died Oct. 31 in a one-car one-car accident in Salt Lake City. He was 44. Although VanWagoner lived beyond the city limits, he considered himself a resident of Park City, according ac-cording to city planning director Bill Ligety, and took a constant interest in the development of the town. He was born Jan. 18, 1941, in Houston, Texas, to Wayne A. and Melba Thomas VanWagoner. He married Patricia Ross July 7, 1973, in Ann Arbor, Mich. He received master of science degrees from both Michigan Technological University and the University of Michigan. He was president of Wayne T. VanWagoner and Associates, Park City. He founded the firm in 1973. During Park City's boom construction construc-tion year of 1981, Ligety recalled, VanWagoner was active as a consultant consul-tant on the traffic and road aspects of proposed projects, and his firm often sat in on staff review sessions. He worked on Deer Valley, Park City Ci-ty Village and the proposed Silver Mountain project, among others. But even when he was not retained by the city as a consultant, Ligety said, VanWagoner went out of his way to participate in meetings and hearings on Park City development. "He was always there to offer his advice," ad-vice," Ligety added. He sought to build stronger ties between the city and his Summit Park community. "He always had interesting stories, whether they were about sailing or trekking in Nepal," Ligety said. VanWagoner was an avid sailor, skier and swimmer and was former National Ski Patrolman at the Brighton Ski Area. ' He was a member of the Park City Community Church. He also belonged belong-ed to the South Salt Lake Rotary Club, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the American Association Associa-tion of Automotive Medicine, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers and the National Na-tional Safety Council. He is survived by his wife, of Park City; daughter, Margaret M. VanWagoner, Van-Wagoner, and son, William T. VanWagoner, Van-Wagoner, both of Salt Lake City; stepsons David E. Van Luven, Mid-dlebury, Mid-dlebury, Vt., and Mark C. Van Luven, Park City; sister Anne VanWagoner, Van-Wagoner, Chicago; mother Melba, Ann Arbor; and a granddaughter. Memorial services were held Monday, Mon-day, Nov. 4, at the Park City Community Com-munity Church. In lieu of flowers, ' donations may be made to the Heart Fund. |
