Show Good will is gold for Prospectors volunteers j by MARKMENLOVE Park City Chamber of CommerceConvention & Visitors Bureau Have you heard of the Park City Prospectors? No, they are , not a group of would-be miners, nor are ' the affiliated with Prospector Square. The Park City Prospectors are a committee of the Park City Chamber of Commerce Convention & Visitors Bureau and consider themselves ambassadors to Park City. In order to continue their involvement involve-ment in Park City, the Prospectors want to expand their membership. They will hold a membership social Nov. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sneakers club at the Park Meadows Racquet Club. The Prospectors were formed three years ago when the Chamber Bureau went to a committee commit-tee system to get its members more actively involved. The ambassadors were meant to represent the Chamber Bureau and the community communi-ty as a whole in ribbon-cuttings, greeting new businesses and visitors to Park City, and so on. "We were meant to be Park City's answer to the Salt Shakers, a group of Salt Lake businessmen who represent repre-sent the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce," Com-merce," said Marialice Klein, original president of the group. . "We wanted a mixed group though, with representation from as many areas of business as we could get, so we welcomed both men and women." It wasn't long before the Prospectors Prospec-tors decided ribbon-cuttings and greeting, while an important function, func-tion, was not enough. There was just too much energy in this group for such tame work. Karlynn Glieden, current co-president co-president of the group, recalls, "(Former city councilwoman) Tina Lewis got us involved in the Governor's Gover-nor's Conference and we liked it so much, we started making ourselves available to other organizations." Since that time, the Prospectors have been involved with the U. S. Ski Team Celebrity Classic, Autumn Aloft and Special Olympics, just to name a few events. Most recently, the Prospectors put together the 4th of July celebration. "We're really proud of that accomplishment," ac-complishment," said Kim Streit, the group's other co-president. "We had little more than a month when we decided to take on that rather large project, but we pulled together with the ChamberBureau and other volunteers and it was a real success." Of the membership drive, Streit said, "We want people who are interested in-terested in being involved in Park City and who like volunteer work. "We work hard, but we have a great time and it's a good way to meet people while doing something worthwhile for the community." Anyone interested in attending the social is welcome. Please RSVP at 649-6100. |
