Show Writers' seminar is set for Kimball by Nan Chalat Do you have a novel in progress hidden or a book of hand-written poems stashed under the bed? Well, get ready to bring them out of hiding this summer for the Writers at Work:Park City Conference. From July 8 to 13 the Kimball Art Center will host a number of award-winning writers, editors and agents who will conduct classes and workshops designed to inspire local authors. The conference is being organized by the non-profit foundation Writers at Work and will be sponsored by the Kimball Art Center, University of Utah Park City Extension, the Utah Arts Council and individual donations. dona-tions. Kate Woodworm of Writers at Work said the conference will consist of University credit courses in fiction, non-fiction and poetry scheduled for Monday through Wednesday. The rest of the week will be devoted to workshops, panel idiscussions and readings, she said.. The panel discussions will cover survival techinques for budding writers, how to submit manuscripts and how to have your book published, she said. Some of the guests at the conference will be Harriet Doerr, winner of the American Book Award for 1984 ; Bernard Taper, a professor of journalism and a staff writer for the New Yorker magazine; Gwen , Head, founder of Dragon Gate Press; and C. Michael Curtis, senior editor of Atlantic Monthly. Carol Houck Smith, an editor at W.W. Norton Publishing Company, and writers' agent Kristine Dahl, will also lend their expertise to the conference. For those who would like to become involved with organizing the conference, the Kimball Art Center has planned a gathering in the Main Gallery April 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. James Thomas and Kate Woodworth of Writers at Work will ask for volunteers to form committees commit-tees to produce the conference. Thomas is the founder of Quarterly West. He has had stories published in Esquire and the Carolina Review. Woodworth is currently the public relations manager at Stein Eriksen Lodge and was a Utah Arts Council Literary Competition winner in 1982. Applications for the conference courses will be available at the Kimball Art Center next week and admission will be based on a writing sample and space availability, Woodworth said.
