Telemark skiers turn toward final stretch of race series With two races left to go in the Wasatch Telemark Series, Kay Kucera has a comfortable lead in the Women's class. But Charlie Hassard will have to work hard to maintain his lead over the Men's division. Kucera has won the Women's division in each of the five telemark races of the series which began in k January. She is going into the final ) two races with a perfect score, said f race coordinator Jessie Whitmore. "In fact if you ranked her time with the men, she would still be in fifth or sixth place that's how good she is," Whitmore said. Cindy Collinson is currently in second place in the series standings, 35 points behind Kucera. Ginny Lee Sprague is in third place, 20 points behind Collinson, Whitmore said. The point spread in the Men's division, however, is considerably smaller. Hassard has a total point accumulation of 103 and has won most of the recent races, but Tore Nilssen is just 10 points away from knocking Hassard out of first place. Nilssen, in turn, is just five points ahead of Jim Poore, and local nordic hotshot Brad Makoff, is breathing down Poore's neck. Makoff, with 87 points, could still move into first place after the next two races. . The first-place prize in each division is a round-trip ticket for two to Los Angeles donated Morris Travel, so the top competitors are sure to put their best ski forward at Snowbird on April 6 and 13.
