Show hi- -f "L. J lfil ill J 1 Maintenance crews have been using aerial work carts as they race against time to prepare Park West for the Winter season. Up until recently, the fate of Park West was an unanswered question but they seem to be drawing nearer to a solution to their problems. Park West Activity Hums Summer crews are busy at Park West, with routine lift maintenance, installation of . specialized lift safety devices, de-vices, and run grooming, however, the emphasis is on a vegetation restorationpro-gram. restorationpro-gram. With Thanksgiving day as the 'official opening date for this year only a few months off, the summer improvement improve-ment work is progressingon schedule at the Snyderville ' Resort. With the heavy focus of time and expense on erosion control and beautif ication, several runs have been cleared of all rock and brush, leaving a deep layer of dark mountain soil. Seeding the runs will c o n t i n ue for the next seven-ten days until it is completed. The runs being be-ing cleared are Bushwhacker, Bushwhack-er, Slaughterhouse, Geron-lmo Geron-lmo and Geronirno Bowl, Stampede and the access to Little Hombre and Badlands. Bad-lands. D-8 Cats with brush rakes instead of dozer blades rake the soil and remove buried or partially buried stumps, logs and rock. The run, then with freshly churned churn-ed soil, much like that of a wheat field, will have appropriate mixtures of grass seed applied. "With a few light thunder showers and some warm Indian summer sum-mer days, it won't be long before green shoots will appear, ap-pear, commented Mountain Manager, Dick Reynolds. Other crews have been concentrating on moving truck loads of topsoil to the top of Sixshooter, Bronco Sourdough and Ricochet runs. "We are moving ahead (Continued page four ) Park West (Continued from page one ) on a restoration program, which may take a couple of years or so to complete, in order to reduce the scars and promote the growth of vegetation," advised Reynolds. Rey-nolds. Trucks have been dumping dump-ing every day for a week, with the cats movingin every few hours to spread the dirt around. Close to 4,000 yards of topsoil have been spread over the areas. As quickly as the accessible areas are covered, crews will for-cast for-cast seed which should insure in-sure a sturdy growth of grass. Other areas of improvements improve-ments at West, will include the installation of sophisticated sophis-ticated lift safety devices, as a safeguard against cable derailment. Although a precautionary measure, it is a very costly improvement requiring electrical apparatus installed install-ed on each lift tower to automatically auto-matically terminate power in the event the cable derails. The installation is performed per-formed by means of a cage, or "work cart" attached to the lift cable, much like a regular chair. With the use of radios, the cart will be moved from tower to tower .while the work is performed. perform-ed.
