Show 52 Cars Get "The Hook" There were 52 ' 'very irate citizens" in Park City over the weekend, according to local police, who towed away and impounded that number of cars for being in violation of the 72-hour parking ordinance. To help facilitate snow removal, that ordinance states that it's illegal for a vehicle to remain parked in the same spot for over three days. "We have had to take a tough stand," explained Park City Police Chief Mike Crowley, who told the Record the warning tickets issued by the department last month had done little to curb the problem. Ordered by the city council to crack-down, Crowley said officers are now marking car tires to track down offending vehicles. Of special interest, he said, have been the derelicts in Swede Alley, some of which have occupied the same public parking spaces since last summer. "If citizens will cooperate, it will make the job much easier," commented the chief. For those who don't, it may cost up to $20, and a dollar a day for storage, to retrieve their impounded cars. |
