Show Bea Offers Report on 4-H Seminar Sphvaneveldt, professor and head of Department of Human Development of Utah State University, at Logan. Wednesday, Wednes-day, the group had their choice of several tour. I greeted two buses here in Park City and took them on a walking tour of Main Street, The first group had lunch at the Carbide Lamp and all week I have heard nothing but good about the food, service and speed in which they were served. They truly enjoyed their trip to Park City. There were people' from fourteen Western States and Canada. Thursday was workshop day with the evening free, everyone every-one was on his own to take part in many things in Salt ; Lake. Berneil Kummer returned home after attending the fifteenth Annual Western Leaders Forum held in Salt Lake City April 9-12 1980. I was one of over 250 in Utah and over 650 from the region to participate in the four-day conference. Also attending from Summit County were Libby Hannay, Norma Stevens. Stev-ens. Sharlene Anderson. Mary Baker. Kathi Richins. Linda Kirkham, Norma Parks, and Home Economist. Faye Boyer. The headquarters .and meeting meet-ing were at the Hotel Utah. Built around a theme "Climbing "Climb-ing with 4-H" . 'the forum was designed to help volunteers recognize the worth of an individual, better understanding understand-ing the needs of vouth and determine resources for strengthening and expanding the 4-H program. The leaders were challenged at their opening session by Hartman Rector. Jr., general authority,. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The major portion of the forum was devoted to in-depth workshops covering a broad spectrum of youth concerns and projects. 1 attended five of these. "Force Influencing the live of 4-Hers". "Community Pride programs", "Citizenship "Citizen-ship V " Involving Senior Citizens". Citi-zens". "Understanding the ! needs of Youth". One of the I hing brought out really ; stayed with me. how the ; young and old have,, similar f problems. 1) Largely unem-j unem-j ployed, introspective and j often depressed, body and i ohisics change, heavy use of irugs. disapproval of marr- iage plans, obsession with time, dimension of lonliness. f concern with autonomy, fear y of apprehension about devcl-j devcl-j opmental changes, concerns j over dependence and indepen-& indepen-& dencc.
