Show Faces Closure Later tW M of the year. "1 just hope someone can be found to operate a Main Street store" she said. 4 if not the restaurants restaur-ants and bars will probably suffer". Meanwhile, no matter how inconvenient the store at Prospector will be to old town residents, the new outlet will .carry almost double the products now available at Rosies. This will include many imported brands and a vastly improved wine selection. When the new State Liquor Store opens at Prospoector Square the first of next month. Main Street will most likely find itself without a retail liquor outlet. Dennis Kellen. Operations Director for. the Utah Liquor Commission told the Record that they would begin moving inventory from the Main Street store this week and that when the new-outlet new-outlet opens at Prospector. Rosies will be closed. The State has operated the Main Street store for over a year, but cannot justify operating two stores in the Park City area, 'if there is to continue to be a liquor outlet on Main Street, it will have to operated by private individuals individ-uals much the way it was before we took over the store last year." said Mr. Kellen. Kellen explained that the state sanctions two types of retail liquor outlets. One is a full line state store operated by the government and the other is a package agency which dispenses liquor from within a retail establishment operated by private individuals. individ-uals. The state pays operators of package agencies a nominal fee for their services which is not enough to make operating a singular liquor store in this manner, profitable. Rather the package agency concept works well as a feature of another retail business. For instance, at one time. Park City's liquor store was inside Day;s Market and later was incorporated into Rosies Delicatessen. The state maintains that they are willing to license a package agency on Main Street but apparently no one has expressed expres-sed interest in the prospect. A spoksman for Car 19 which holds a long term lease on Rosies said they are very interested in finding a tennant for the space who is willing to operate a package agency. Because Car 19 now operates three business on Main Street, they maintain they are unable to also operate the package store. Although the people at Car 19 say they would work liverally with anyone willing to operate a liquor store in the space. No one has to date expressed any interest. A liquor store on Main Street is seen as a necessity for the area's many restaurants restaur-ants and saloons, and the prospects of it closing has drawn concern from Business people throughout the City. Amanda Peterson. Director of the Chamber of Commerce! said she was very concerned about the impact the closure of Rosies will have on Main Street bars and restaurants and on the tourist inductry that supports the street much i |
