Show 5 Years Ago February 1970 A second attempt to crack First Security Bank's old safe (Circa 1870) was made this past weekend; for the second time only silver coins were taken, no currency. The old safe within the vault is still considered the toughest tough-est to crack. The first break into the bank was attempted over Thanksgiving weekend in 1962. The second try was made around midnight of Friday, Feb. 13 and early Valentine's Day, 1970. The discovery of the robbery was made by Miles (Mike) Ivers who came to the Gardner Realty office at 9:45 a.m. with Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Hird and daughter Tonya, from Atherton, California. When Mike put his key into ' they door lock he found it unlocked un-locked and as he opened the door he saw a large four by three foot tin scrap on the. floor with snow layingaround it, just inside the off ice door. Entry was made from the , Fourth Street door to 401 Main Street, forcing the locked door. The thieves went upstairs through the former apartment, then came down to the ground floor. A hole 18 inches by 12 inches was cut with a wood drill to remove a section of the wall. A fine baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bradley, Brad-ley, the first born to the young couple. The twenty-third birthday of the Women's Atheneum was held at the home of the president, Mrs. Finch. The club colors were carried out, cherry and white, the centerpiece being a vase of American Beauty roses with streamers of fern. A crystal cry-stal basket of sweet peas.
