Show Well Done Last week, the Utah State Senate ioted 15 to 12 to kill Senate Bill 85 which called for the "reorganization" of the Summit County School Districts. We take our hats off to the people of Park City and Summit County, who fought so diligently, and gave so much of their time for a cause. A cause which has traditionally been first in the hearts and minds of Summit County residents. res-idents. The cause of locally controlled schools. Up until the final Vote was cast in the Senate, people had little hope of preserving a locally controlled school system, whereby parents, teachers and local administrators actually have a say with regard to the education of their children. It was the Park City and Summit County citizenry who finally showed the State Legislature that a consolidated school system is not what we need nor want for our children in Summit County. It is a situation like this, where the people, in the end, do play a viable roll in local government that exemplifies what this country stands for ( Government by the people for the people). Again we salute you, residents of Park City and Summit' County, not for killing a particular bill or amendment, but for taking an active roll in our government and for standing up and working for a cause that you so wholeheartedly believe in. |
