Show Editorial Miner's Day Good Step We were very pleased to learn of the Chamber's plans for 'Miner's Day." To us it shows two important things. First, that the Chamber of Commerce has recognized that they have a responsibility to the people of Park City beyond the art festival and even more so beyond hosting an annual cocktail party. Secondly, it shows us that, hopefully, the people of Park City have ceased to exist under the pretentious guise of the so called "resort life" and have begun to think of themselves, once again as Utahns and Parkites with a rich heritage that everyone of us can be proud of. Last year, we got the feeling that as far as community activities went and the promotion of those activities the Chamber was under the impression that the resort (Greater Park City Company) would take care of everything. They obviously did not and why should they have? The Chamber continues to complain about the lack of community support with regard to their functions but to many, the Chamber was not involved in the promotion of activities worthy of their backing. We feel that activities like "Miner's Day" unlike the cocktail party, is an affair geared to all Park City, not a select few. We further feel that the Chamber will be surprised sur-prised at the total community support they will receive with regard to 'Miner's Day." Community oriented events are good for Park City. Not only do they get the townfolk out working and having fun together, but it creates an atmosphere condusive to better business, in that people from surrounding areas will want to come to Park City to participate in the general good time. Once the Chamber realizes that they have an obligation obliga-tion not only to the business community but to everyone in Park City, then they will become a driving force an instigating force that will unite everyone in Park City all working together for abetter Park City. Not only working an economically healthier Park City, but a Park City possessed with a valid sense of community spirit and pride, coupled with an awareness of our rich heritage. Hopefully, this summer we all can get together and work hard for a great Park City, not Park City, Colorado or Park City, California, but Park City, Utah. |
