Show Athletic Banquet Honors Outstanding Young Sportsmen - if i' ( i i - : - '- ?i " i , f , ','. j 1! j The annual Athletic-Music Banquet was held last Friday at Park City High School before a large crowd in the gymnasium. Harve Murdock, a referee for many years who lives in Heber, was guest speaker for the event. Awards and trophies were given out to students who made important contributions this past year. "It's been an honor to be with some of the best known athletes in the world," said guest speaker Murdock after being introduced by Booster Club member Pete Martinez. story Murdock told, which was about an altercation he had to break up during a basketball game, received quite a bit of applaluse and laughter. Alene Jensen, women's physical physi-cal education teacher, awarded Most Valuable Player Award in Basketball to Tami McDaniels while Helen Byer got Most Valuable Player in Volleyball. Other members of the women's basketball team to receive recognition recog-nition for their excellence were Sherry Blair, Cissy Byer, Diane Burns, Mary Shaw, Sandra Burns, Phyllis Dixon, and Elisa Leavitt. They all received pins, as did the following members of the gymnastics team: Laraine Burns, Colleen Burns, Shane Cooper, Diane Burns, and Sandra Burns. CHEERLEADING SQUAD: Sherry Blair Murdock has been a referee for many years, participating in nearly every sport. He was also a professional baseball umpire. Wayne Carlson gave out the following awards to members of his wresting team: Outstanding Wrestler: Tom Martinez; Most Improved: Bob Pace; Sportsmanship: Cory Provost. Prov-ost. Four seniors on the wrestling team received belt buckles for their impressive performances over the years: Tom Martinez, Mike Reed, Gregg Pratt, and Rick Provost. Mike Alvey received four major awards for the basketball team: Most Valuable Player, All Region Team member, Top Scorer, and Top Rebounder.
