Show Lee Larson Wins Local Spelling Bee Eiht contestants, representing grades 4-7, competed in the annual Spelling Bee of Park City School District at Marsac Elemen-tary Elemen-tary School Friday, April 15. Those students participating in this final round of the Spelling Bee had won during competition in their respective grade levels. "They've worked so hard," said Renee Gertsch, a sixth grade teacher at Marsac. "We had play-offs and everything," she added. Lee Larson, a seventh grader, tame in First place' and will represent the .district at the state competition Chris Slan finUhed' second. The remaining six students who participated were Steven Holm-sen Holm-sen and Kenny Lawson (6th grade); Susan Singleton, Alana Soare's (7th grade); Bridget Goings (5th grade); and Tori Pillinger (4th grade). After the first word was called out, which was "advertising," it finally wound down to two people: Lee Larson and Chris Sloan. Lee correctly spelled words "Efficient" "Effic-ient" and "calendar," and was pronounced the winner. There was absolute quiet in the playroom at the elementary school as the words were called out to the visibly nervous competitors. They should all be commended for making it to the finals. The four judges were Scot Williams, Patti Prince, Laura Jarvis, and Vicki Wallin. .The Record would like to wish Lee Larson the best of luck when he represents Park City at the State Spelling Bee. The State Spelling Bee will be held April 29 in Salt Lake with the winner going on a 5-day all expense paid trip to the National Spelling Bee Contest in Washington, Washing-ton, D.C.
