Indian songs, dances and poems were all part of the colorful presentation put on at Marsac Elementary School. Students learned about several different aspects of Indian life. Colorful Indian Presentation Given Laurie Tisch Indian songs, dances, and poems were all part of the colorful presentation Mrs. Chapuse. and Mrs. Gonzalez brought to Marsac last Wednesday. Wed-nesday. The two women andl Tom A. Togue, Mrs. Chap-use's Chap-use's 4-year-old daughter, told the kindergarten through third grade students something about many of the various Indian tribes, concentrating con-centrating on the Hopi, Navajo, Nav-ajo, and Apache Indians. The women are sisters and are both married to Indians.- Mrs. Chapuse to a Ute and Mrs. Gonzalez to a Mexican Mex-ican who is part Apache. Both women have develop ed an extensive reeling tor and knowledge of Indian folklore folk-lore and customs, which they eagerly shared with the students. stu-dents. By the end of the presentation, pres-entation, the students had learned about several different dif-ferent aspects of the Indian culture, such as the use of jewelry and shells for money, two Indian dances, and several sentences in sign language. Exposure to different cultures cul-tures is vital for a well rounded education and will hopefully continue to be encouraged en-couraged at Marsac. |
