Show How We See It Equality Keynote for Enforcement The alleged "crack down" onCondition-al onCondition-al Use, business license, and sign permit violators will apparently get underway this week. City Building and Zoning Inspector, Glen Smith has received from Planning Commission Chairman, John Strand, a list of some 13 known violators. Smith indicated that he will begin contacting violators individually in an attempt at-tempt to clear the matter up as soon as possible. 'We say it's about time. What good is the law if it is not enforced. Up until now, it seems the city government govern-ment has either looked the other way or taken a somewhat laxidasical attitude towards to-wards offenders of vital city ordinances. Every week we see people come before be-fore the Planning Commission and City Council, working within the law for permission per-mission to operate a legal business. Often times it takes several sessions with both Planning Commission and City Council. This costs the applicant a lot of time and more often than not considerable expense. Then there a're those who never even apply for licenses and permits. They hang up an illegal sign for an illegal business and up until now have gone unnoticed and unmolested un-molested by City officials. We fail to see any justice in this. We hope that in the future, investigation investiga-tion and enforcement of City ordinances and violators of those ordinances will become be-come a rigorous policy, rather than a matter which surfaces only when the situation sit-uation becomes out of hand. We have a good legal system in Park City. One which, if enforced, will allow the town to grow and prosper, unaffected by the problems which plague other cities in a growth situation. However, if city ordinances are not rigorously enforced, the City in a matter of years will find itself in a situation which it had not bargained for. Apart from that, the citizenary might perceive bias in a supposedly unbiased local government, which is not particularly healthy for any community. A just and fair legal system is the backbone of any community. And government govern-ment which enforces the law in a just and fair manner is one of strength. |
