Show Utah PTA Representatives To Hold Annual Convention Representatives of Utah's 80,000 PTA members will be meeting in annual convention May 9 and 10 at Weber State College in Ogden, Utah. With the theme of "Preparing Today for Tomorrow's World" many challenges will be offered the leadership of PTA Councils and local units throughout the state. Mrs. Ernest Burnside, State PTA President states, "Changing "Chang-ing times brings new challenges, PTA has met the challenge of yesterday, and in efforts to meet the challenges of today has identified areas of concern and prepared suggested action to meet those concerns." These areas of concern will be part of the program awaiting delegates. On hand to bring greetings from the National Congress of PTA will be Mrs. J. M. Hern-don, Hern-don, currently First Vice President Pres-ident and nominee for National President. Mrs. Herndon will speak to the delegates Thursday morning, May 10 on "The Role of PTA in Today's and Tomorrow's Tomor-row's World." Proposed revisions to the state bylaws affecting a major change in the organization of the State PTA Board of Managers, and important resolutions concerning con-cerning Childhood Safety, Guidance Guid-ance Counselors in Early Elementary Years, Leadership Training, Strengthing the Home and others will be discussed and voted by the convention body. A reception and banquet will be held on Wednesday evening. May 9 at which time delegates will be priviliged to meet Mrs. Herndon, Mrs. Calvin L. Ramp- ton will be introduced as next ' year's Honorary Membership Chairman. The banquet will also include recognition of Mr. Bob Welt as Past Honorary Membership Mem-bership Chairman and Mrs. James W. Ure III, Past State President. Supporting the theme, "Today's "To-day's Youth is Tomorrow's World" some of the outstanding outstand-ing talent from the high schools throughout the state will be highlighted as they perform. The convention keynote speaker will be Mr. Neal A. Maxwell, the Commissioner of Education for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Maxwell will speak on the theme of the convention, "Preparing Today for Tomorrow's Tomor-row's World." According to Mrs. Jerry Nelson, Nel-son, convention chairman, "All areas of concern, including El ementary Schools, Secondary Schools, Teacher Concerns, Student Concerns, Parent Concerns, Con-cerns, and Leadership Concerns Con-cerns will be met at this convention." con-vention." Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. May 9 at the Fine Arts Center with the first general meeting beginning at 9:00 a.m. Mrs. Ernest Burnside, President Pres-ident of the Utah Congress of Parents and Teachers, will preside pre-side over the convention.
