Show Bits and Pieces By Eleanor Bennett Spring? I saw a robin Sunday morning struggling with a wig-gly wig-gly worm as the wet snow came down and again, for a time, the ground was white! I had been thinking of packing away some of my winter clothes -NOPE, not yet! Have you driven the countryside country-side lately? Is there anything any cuter than the wobbly calves and bouncy lambkins that now populate the fields? As I drove Saturday to Og-den Og-den to the District Convention of the Utah Federation of Women's Wo-men's Clubs, I was simply enchanted en-chanted by the MANY baby animals along the way (I might say that I drove the 'back" way through Coalville and Morgan Mor-gan not down throughSalt Lake City), so it was all lovely farm land. The meeting was held at the Weber Club and that is a beautiful beau-tiful place. It's an old mansion I didn't have an opportunity to find out when it was built or who had lived there, but it is just gorgeous. It is many-roomed many-roomed and attractively decorated. decor-ated. Large fireplaces grace many rooms, but the focal point is the stairway. It is wide and squarish right in the center of the house. Up one section, then a turn to the left for about 12 feet. The wall on the right is enhanced by as beautiful a leaded glass window as could be imagined shades of yellow and light greens, it diffuses the light without dimming the interior. And then left again and up the second section. The balustrade was wide and handsomesolid hand-somesolid wood that had stood the test of time rubbed and polished and rubbed some more. This home was a fine setting for an enjoyable meeting that included several fine speakers, one of whom was Mr. LeeCaine who recently relinquished his secure post as principal of one of Ogden's schools to assume a position as Director of Elementary Elemen-tary Education for the District. He is one of many and from his ideas of what school children chil-dren need and deserve from their teachers, lucky indeed is the child wtio comes to Mr. Caine's attention. |
