PRINTERS NOT TO BLAME charles A stallings investigates error in bills washington july 1 public printer charles A stallings has directed an in vesti gation of the public printing office to ascertain the cause 0 delay in burning ning the omnibus public building bil to the benale senale and whether the public printing office could be held responsible for the retention in the sundry civil abill of the item appropriating tor the purchase of land in washington for executive buildings after both houses had voted not to include it mr stallings said the foreman of and dill forces at the printing had done thear full duty after with senators hale and mr said the pressure was so great on the enrolling orce of congress that it was impossible for the printing office to work faster than it did As to the errors arf the sundry civil bill mr stillings said that his information ag that the proofreaders proof readers had put question marks on the proof containing this item and that when the proof came back for final printing these question marks had been crossed out which meant to the printers that the item was to be printed in the bill
