Hyrum M. Smith and Nephi L. Morris of Salt ' Lake sent a telegram to Senators j Sinoot and Sutherland and Congress-; Congress-; man Joseph Howell, who were then at the national capital, telling that I "Utah U aroused and earnestly dc-I dc-I manding prohibition at the hands of . the legislators," anj conveying the Idea that, If something be not done for the prohibition cause, that the Republican Repub-lican party would be called, the ant!-prohibition ant!-prohibition party of the stale. Mr. Roberts further asserted that the con-grcssioim con-grcssioim delegation had not, up to that time, answered that telegram, and he construed the failure to answer a.s an evidence of an alleged deal between be-tween ihe Republican leaders nnd the liquor dealers of Utah that uo legislation legis-lation would he attempted that would be detrimental to the liquor traffic.
