Show NO SALOONS ON THE NEW AVENUE I If a movement, now under way does not go awry, there will be no saloons, gambling houses or othur places of business which rr.lght be looked upon by any part of the public ns other than acceptable on tho new block of Hudson avenue. This nioYoment, for what Is termed a "clean street," lend by Joseph Peery. They hav considerable con-siderable property Interests on the new thoroushfare. so have both a moral and economic Interest In tho project, which they are fostering In an effort to get. the other property prop-erty holders tu combine with them in the project, a circular letter ha been sent out, of which tho following Is an extract: "Hudson avenue stands in danger of belnji the "Commercial street' of Ogden. In that event it will be a 'bis nnd by-word' to all, shunned by respectable re-spectable women, and a real mcnaoi and injury to tiho Washington avenue property. I would like to talk to ! such a gathering. Then to get their ! signatures to something like this: "We the piHipi-rty owners of Hud-I Hud-I fou avenue. I It is likely that a meeting of the property owners will be held within, a few c'ays when some such resolution resolu-tion as the one above rpioted will bo acted upon. ; This moral movement is barked ma-! ma-! turially by the plans .f build. ngl j which a number of Hudson avenue ' men now have In the hands of nrchl-: nrchl-: tec ts. J. T. Hurst recent I v organized j a company to Improve tho Auditor-1 Auditor-1 ium, which will face the new avenue with an S'Vfoot fton'. A second story ; Is to be added to this structure. Wh'.lo ' It Is not known definitely what the 1 building will be used for, it is probable prob-able thai the first floor will be rented rent-ed for store rooms, while the upp?r ' rooms will be made into offices, 1 The P. ery brothers are getting out ' plans for a modern office and store : building at the corner of Hudson ae-nuo ae-nuo and Twenty-fifth street, ft will be a two-story structure and thorough ly up-to-date. It will be built on the 1 site of the building now occupied by I the American Tea company, for al ! tln.ugh only a part of the present siructure need? to be torn' down to make way for the new street, all of It will razed and a new block con-" con-" structed. It is believed that every owner nf land facing Hudson avenue has somewhat some-what similar plans for making tho I street a modem business thorough-' thorough-' fare. |
