Show WASHING THE DISHES Hints to Make Much Dreaded Task Easier-Rinse Easier-Rinse Thoroughly A housekeeper when asked tho secret se-cret of her always-clcan-and-wbito dish towel3 f.ald: "In the first placo I never allow dish water to dry in my towel3. They are rlu,ed out after every using aud if possible dried out of doors. Then onco a week they go through tho regular wash. My belief is, however, that their peculiar "whiteness 13 duo to the fact that they are always al-ways rinsed and wrung out of cold water, never hot water. I also p!n my faith to linen towds The cotton, though cheaper, will gTow gray after much wetting, in sp!tj of every care. Sanitary Dish Washing My belief is that only about oiw in ten washes dfvdies in a sanitary way. Here is the largest pan piled full or j greasy plates, cups, silver, and small j :.- ! dishes. A piece of soap is placed on top and the hot water poured on. Then the plates are washed out first, to make room, the soap meanwhile becoming be-coming jelly-like and adhering in small particles to the china. Dishes are inverted in-verted to drain, and cither wiped directly di-rectly from the hot suds, or hot water ia poured over and like tho Pharisees of Christ's time, "ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter," while tho inside is full of soapsuds. I have seen women who were fiulcky about their housekeeping wash tho milk pitcher, which of all thiugs should be perfectly clean, through strong suds, then dash water over tho outside. I have visited a soap factory and there seen and smclled great vats of fat scraps that go to make the soap greaso necessary in its compounding. I am not criticising the method of soap making. It is all right for the uio It was intended to eradicate grease and dirt but no manufacturer ever Intended it as a food Caver. Dishes from a light meal are far better washed without soap. Uso a medium-sized pi.n for washing, and begin with the glasses, cups, etc., leaving leav-ing greasy dishes till tho hut. ' Placo right side up In a large pan. then your rn?lr.g water will do houio good. Or better still, drain off the suds, then placo in rinsing pan. Tho wiping cloth does not remove tho suLj. |
