Show ORGANIZING A CHECKER CLUB M. C. Dlakeley, erstwhile captaiu of the Carmen's baseball team and more recently chief devotee of checkers check-ers at the Southern Pacific shops, has received a letter from the Salt Lake Chess and Checker club, offering the co-operation of the Zlon orpmizatlon in the formation of a branch club in this city. Mr. Hlakcley states that It is likely that he will make an effort to form a chess and checker society In Ogden. If this is done, it will be with tho object ob-ject of holding a tournament In which local players will be pitted against a checker or chess team from the capital. capi-tal. Being a painter of considerable artistic ar-tistic ability, Blakeley has devoted his spare time lately to the manufacture manufac-ture of checker boards and at present pres-ent owns six boards. One of these, a small folding board, the painter carries car-ries with him at all times. |
