Show WEST WILL SUFFER. The government, having allowed the American Sugar Refining company to absorb much of the stock of the beet sugar companies of the West and to dominate the industry, now seeks to redeem itself for its tardiness by one tremendous blow at the trust. When the trust is smashed to smithereens, what then? The prospects pros-pects are that in the cra9h the beet industry will suffer as complete disorganization as is intended to be inflicted on the trust, the sugar market will be demoralized and years of adversity will come upon the beet industry. The great mistake originally, made was the tolerating of the ini-tial ini-tial trust tactics in the field of the beet sugar industry and the failing to act at the time the Havemeyer people started out to subjugate the beet people. Today the industry has adjusted itself to the now conditions, condi-tions, and the holdings of the American Sugar Refining company and the steadying influnce on the market of the powerful sugar interests cannot be suddenly withdrawn without bringing about complete demoralization de-moralization in the beet industry. |
