Show OGDEN'S MILK SUPPLY. There is only one dairy supplying Ogden with milk. The other dealers in milk are simply distributers. This is one of the largest cities in the United States without ample dairy milk supply. The dealer in milk gathers his supply from twenty or more country homes where cows are milked. If in any one of these many homes there is filth or disease, nearly the entire milk supply is contaminated, con-taminated, as the milk is indiscriminately poured from one can to another. The health authorities are perplexed in their efforts to overcome this deplorable condition. It has been suggested that if a modern dairy were to be established, with regular government inspection as to cleanliness and the health conditions of the milch cows, the sanitary establishment would obtain control of the milk trade of the city or force the present milk dealers to establish sanitary dairies. We note that the last report of the Utah State Board of Health places Weber county at the head of the list in scarlet fever, with a total of 64 cases. There are those who claim that much of the contagious conta-gious disease in this city and county comes from the milk supply. One afflicted family, furnishing milk to a milk dealer, can spread disease throughout the entire community. |
