Bates, for ninny jears a teacher of the deaf and dumb, and an expert In the art cf lip read-big, read-big, declares that these shows are the chief source of amusement for the deaf and dumb and they are prevented prevent-ed from enjoying- them because they arc able to understand what Is being said by the characters on the screens. Mrs. Bates made a tour cf the downtown down-town shows yesterday accompanied bv a reporler who wrote down the picture talk, and at times the language lan-guage was so vile that she had to stop. f Mayor Baehr admits that tho question ques-tion s too deep for him. but thinks It is a matter to be adjusted by tbe humane society. A. B Williams, Jr., of this organization, however, says It should be taken up with the manufacturers manu-facturers of the films. |
