Show uo LEMON GREW ON A MATS THUMB I Washington. Dec. 12. Truth and fiction are running an even race In a story that is being told around the national capltol about the fecundity ot a man's thumb, In which a couple of lemon seeds accidentally became Imbedded. Six weeks ago Wilfred Barron, who Is employed at a cafe here, was whittling whit-tling the rind off some lemons when he cut his thumb deeply. After the wound healed three spots appeared, the length of one of them being ea- I tlmated at one-half Inch. ! Dr. C. A. Snow removed the pecu- ' liar growth, but a few days ago some I more sprouts rose from the flncer, it Is related, and had to l carved out. Barron Is wondering whether the vein w ill produce any more. He Is said to have planted the first seed In a (lower i pot, christening the little tree that has already resulted therefrom 'Tom Thumb." To those who attribute the story to fertility of the imagination, rather than fertility of the digit, Barron ex- hlblts a thumb wound on the one hand I nnd points with the other to the 1cm- , on plant on the window sill. i oo |
