Show WILL MAKE EAST Til Mail Trains to Be Run On a Swift Schedule Chicago, Feb. 17. In response to a request by the postofflce department, depart-ment, the management of the Harrl-mau Harrl-mau lines have agreed to facilitate the delivery of the malls In southern California by practically half a day. In order to do this the companies arc preparing, with the spring change in train time, to cut 3 1-2 hours off tho running time dt the California Limited trains. The California limited of the Santa Fe and the Golden State Limited ot the Rock Island and the Southern Pacific roads, accordingly will make tho run westbound from Chicago n Los Angeles In sixty-eight and one-half one-half hours instead ot in seventy-two hours. The change will probably be made April 1 or April 13. At present the transcontinental malls arrive in Los Angeles at t and 7 o'clock In the evening when the two lust trains are on time. This Is too late to permit i sorting an 1 distributing mall tho same day, and. there Is o delay until the following morning. Under tho new schedule th trains will arrive in ls Angees at , 2:30 and 3:30 p. in., which will give tho post of I ice ample time to deliver the mail on the day of its arrival. Therefore, by train delivery into Lo Angeles three and one-half hours j earlier than now the mall will reach, I its ultimate destination from twelve ' to fifteen hours earlier The samo j will be true of all the mail for soutbei'a California. j All of the mail for southern Callfcy ' j rda now has to go by the two routes I named, as the washout, r.f the San I Pedro route will prevent the running j of trains lor smc time. |
