Show COST OF MAKING THE TRIP TO JARBIDCE A letter giving some interesting information in-formation on conditions at the new camp of Jarbldgc, In the northern part of Nevada, has just been received re-ceived in Goldfleld from "Teddy1' Ga, who Is well knowu In Goldfield and who left hero some time ago with other Goldfleldltes to try their fortunes for-tunes at Jarbidge. The letter says, iu part: "We are all settled down to camp life, Rummer, Dugan and myself. Jar-bldge Jar-bldge creek runs right through the town, so we have plenty of water, and timber Is also very plentiful "The ranchers bring in fresh killed beef and sell It for 11 cents a pound. They w ere selling It for K 1-2. but they have been raising tho price for about six weeks. "I would estimate .about 175 people In camp; that Is, up and down the creek for a distance of about five miles. The district looks very good, 1 and there seems- to be no limit to tho mineral area. No one should think of coming iu without being thoroughly equipped with tent, blankets, provisions, provi-sions, etc. Little Snow In Town. "Values have been found for a distance dis-tance of ten miles or more along the creek. Quite a bit of snow on the mountains, but very little right in , town. I will give you correct duta I regarding prices and the way to get hero: Railroad fare from Goldfield to Buhl, Idaho. $39.20; stage from Buhl to Three Creek (60 miles), fare $5, and 4 cents a pound for baggage, etc.; Three Creek to the Island or Hot Springs, fare J2.50, and 21-2 cents per pound for luggage (12 miles); from Hot Springs to Jarbldgc (13 to 15 miles) you have to pack In, and the packers charge 5 cents a pound You have to walk In from Hot Springs, or sometimes you are able to get a saddle sad-dle horse belonging to some packing outfit and ride lu for $5. "So you see a man roust figure on about 11 1-2 cents a pound on all stuff he brlng.s in from Buhl. A man can buy his tent, blanket, cooking utensils uten-sils and stove at Buhl, and then get his precisions at Three Creek. It is a pretty hard trip getting here, but after you arrive it is very pleasant. We were ery fortunate lu coming through without any delays, leaving Goldfield Sunday morning we arrived here Friday afternoon. Wo had to wait only half a day at Hot Springs to got packed in. "The day we came In from the Springs another party came which had beeu waiting twelve days to be packed In, but the packers arc pre?tty well caught up now. I would Judge thero ore about C5 or 70 horses used In packing here now. Thero has been but Iltthj work done hero yet. the snow being so deep In the mountains. This spring thero will probably be quite a few come In via Deeth. Wells or Elko. The distance will probably be about 90 or 100 miles. "There is mull senlec once a week in here now. Stage service from Huhl to Three Creek trl-weekly Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays." (Signed) "TEDDY." |
