The insurgents insur-gents are making no effort to bave any of their number put upon tho committee. PRESIDENT TAFT DESIRES PEACE Washington. D. C , Jan. 13. Following Follow-ing Taft'a advice to Republicans in congress yesterday to "stop quarreling and get down to tho party executive program as quickly as possible," there. were concrete evidences today of a definite attempt to bring the warring factions together on some basis of at kast a temporary understanding. There seemed for the first time this session to be a spirit of conciliation and decidedly less of the bitterness of the last few weeks. President Saft let It be known that he still considers all of the Insurgents as Republicans. Speaker Cannon announced an-nounced that all Republicans would b? invited to the caucus in naming the Balllnger-Plnchot committee next I week, and that it is hoped all will attend. at-tend. Representative Hayes of California, Cali-fornia, one of the loading insurgents, made two trips to the White House. Atter the first of these he announced that attempts to adjust matters were underway. He consulted with most of his brethren and reported back to tho President President Taft let it be known that that his test of Republicanism will come when action 13 taken upon the legislative recommendations which ho made in compliance With the party platform. In his talks with Representative Hayes, and other callers today the President said he was not withhold lng patronage from any Republican senator or member of congress because be-cause of invective cast against Speaker Speak-er Cannon against tho rules of the house or against the Payne Aldrlch tariff bill. What Taft Will Do. If, however, there are any among the Insurgents who Intend to carry their battle against tho speaker and against the rules to the extent of opposition purely administration and party measures to which the parly is pledged, the President will no longer regard them as Republicans, but as having clearly arrayed themselves against the party. He declares he would not be justlflod in recognizing any claims for patronage from senators sena-tors or representatives who would use the patronage given them as ammunition ammuni-tion against the party.
