Show UTAH COAL MINES EMPLOY 3,500 MEN There are employed todav in the coal mines in tho vicinity of Price between be-tween 2.000 and 4,000 men. The miners min-ers are paid better than $J a day, making mak-ing a total pay roll for the various mines of over $12,000 each day, or $75,000 a week, and $200,000 a month. These figures are probably considerably consider-ably exceeded; they at leant are not excessive. The various mines have worklnc forces now of about as follows: fol-lows: Hiawatha, 100 men; Cedar Creek. 2o; Castle Cafe, 500; Winter Quarters, 300: U. P., 250; Clear Creek.-500; Kenne-lworth, 300; Sun-nyeide, Sun-nyeide, J, 00. A miner knocks down and brings to the surface on an average aver-age probably two tons or more of coal each day, and often several times that Quantity, making the dally output of the mines down there over 10,000 tons every working day. Some of the oldest old-est and best mines are attaining great distances into the side of the mountains, moun-tains, increasing the operating expenses ex-penses somewhat. Thero Is practically , no shaft coal mining todav in Utah, mines. However, some of the inclines will show a five per cent grade, which adds considerably to the cost per ton I of coil delivered at the mouth of the tunnels. Carbon county, with Its thousands thou-sands of acres of rich coal beds, Is (oday one of the most Important counties coun-ties In the state, and in only a few years Emery county, which has been rather neglected In thin respect, will show up coal resources equal to those of Carbon.
