Show OLD FOLKS 0NTW0 TRAINS DEPART FOR SALT LAKE One Old Lady !s 101 Years Old and There Are Many 90 Years or More Great Crowd at Ihe Depot to See the Old People Off AH Excursionists Well Cared for. l ween K. The OM Folks annual excursion to Salt Luke this morning was a pronounced pro-nounced and gratifying success Jn every ev-ery particular and few, aside from old time pioneers and early settlers were on either of the two trains which pulled pull-ed out for tho capital city shortly after 9 o'clock. The early settlers, uhn havt transformed Ocdou and We- ber county fiom u trackless waste to a modern garden of Eden, began to assemble at the Union depot as early ns 7:30 o'clock, and from that time on until 9 o'clock the venerable excursionists excurs-ionists swarmed to local railroad headquarters from every direction to await the departure of trains scheduled sched-uled to carrv them on their regular outing as guests of the Oregon Short Line management. There were any number of happy old people who had reached the ripe and venerable age of ninety years, and one ros-faced. smiling old lady proudly boasted of having celebrated the anniversary of her 101st birthday. birth-day. Those who were only seventy yearn of ago were regarded as youngsters and were provided with a red badge to indicate their youthfulness; those who had attained the ago of eighty years were furnished with blue badges and those who had reached ninety and were climbing toward the century mark were supplied with white to indicate that thev were entitled to special attention from the committee in charge of arrangements. At 8:30 o'clock the special train from Brigham City and intermediate points rolled Into' the Union Depot from the north and four coaches were crowded with pioneers from Box Elder I county. Eight coaches, crowded with Weber county pioneer's, were attached to this train and sent through to the capital city without stopping at any point between be-tween Ogden and Salt lake. A little later the second train of ten coaches, containing the overflow of pioneers, was sent smith with instructions in-structions to pick up plor.sers at all stations between Ogden and the capital capi-tal and to see that each pioneer was j provided with a comfortable seat for I the trip j Local Ilarrlraan officials vied with J members or the committee of arrang?- ments in extending every courtesy and ' attention to the venerable excursion- ! ists and it was- a happy, jolly assemblage assem-blage of grand old pione?rs that start- i ed out for the day's enjoyment. j The two specials will leave Salt Lake for Ogden and Brig'iam City at 7 o'clock ft his evening and special care will be taken by railroad officials that no incident or accident may mar the pleasure of the annual event. If the railroad management had allowed al-lowed the excursion to become general, gen-eral, another train of fifteen coaches could have been easil) filled by those willing to pay r?eular rates for the i trip, but Tie order had gone out that' none, but pioneers and old folks would be taken as guests on this occasion, J and the rules and orders were strict- ly adhered to. j |
