Show WORK TRAINS! ON A NEW CUTOFF SIX CREWS FOR THE WORK WEST OF WELLS. Laying of Steel on Twenty Mile of New Road Has Been Ordered By Harrlman. Superintendent E. C. Manson of the i Salt Lake division has received in- 1 struct ions from headquarters to pro- I ceed with the work of changing tho main line of the Southern Pacific between be-tween Wells and Bceth, 150 miles west of Ogden The new work entails en-tails the laying of twenty miles of new Btandard 90 pound steel on the cut-off and the work will be strictly up-to-date In every particular. The steel is already on the ground-and ground-and tho work of distributing the ties and putting down the rails will be commenced as quickly as working forces can be assembled on the ground. The grade has been completed for some lime. As soon as possible tho task of ballasting the new track will follow the tracklayers. The work mapped out is of the best type of railroad construction and when completed will total In cost nearly half a million dollars. Half a dozen or more work trains will be required to accomplish the work, which is among the heaviest ever attempted by the Salt lake division di-vision operating department, and the task will occupy two or three months at least. Superintendent Manson leaves for the west, Wednesday morning and, after af-ter locating district headquarters at I inlay will start the ball rolling on the cut-off and put the train crews and laborers at work sometime next week. |
