Show ENGINEER DIES AT POST In Heroic Effort to Stop Runaway Ore Train, He Is Killed Como, Colo., March 20. Engineer Bud Schwartz, who stuck to his engine, hi an heroic er-fort er-fort to stop tho train, was instantly killed. Tho other members or tho train crew jumped when they realized the train was beyond control, and escaped es-caped with minor bruises. So great was the momentum or tho train, when it left the track, that the ears and engine were piled In a heap of scrap iron forty, feet from the right-of-way. When Engineer Schwann realized that his train wa3 beyonl control, he grasped the whlstlo cord, and all tho way down the seven miles ff sleep grade his engine kept giving giv-ing out ItH shrill note of warning. Schwartz went to his death with tlid cord in his hand. |
