Show SEISMOGRAPH RECORDS QUAKE SL Petersburg, Jan. 24. Although all reports from the various observatories observa-tories In Russia locate the earthquake, the shocks of which were recorded yesterday, somewhat on the Russian side of Pamirs, TurkOBtan, no direct news has been received fixing the disturbance dis-turbance in any definite place. A dispatch dis-patch from Borzhom In Trans-Cauca-Bla, reports the registering there by the seismographlc Instruments of a distant earthquake. Russian Turkestan In the region indicated in-dicated Is sparsely settled and details of an earthquake there would be very slow in reaching St. Petersburg. The first direct reports from the scene ot the great earthquake at Karatagh, Russian Turkestan in October. 1907. was not received here until three weeks after its occurrence. In that earthquake about 15,000 persons were killed. |
