Show BRAKEMAN MEETS HORRIBLE DEATH First Loses Leg and Hand Under Wheels of a Car at Garfield. Salt Lake, Jan. 2 C. A. Burgerman. about 3S rears old, a brakeman employed employ-ed by the Denver & Rio Grande rai road, is dead as the result of an accident acci-dent which occurred at Garfield at 1 o'clock Fridav morning. Burgerman was working in the railroad yards at Garfield, and ran ahead to set a switch for a string of cars, which was being shifted, when his foot became caught in a frog and held him so fast that the car struck him. The unfortunate man was knocked down and run over, the result being the loss of his left les and left hand. Dr. Bransford of Garfield was called to attend the man, and did what he could to relieve his suffering. A special train was ordered to bring the injured man to this city, and after hours of delay de-lay it finally arrived in Salt Lake at C o'clock Fridav morning. A ambulance ambu-lance was in waiting, and conveyed Burgerman to the St. Mark's hospital, where an operation was performed immediately. im-mediately. The man never recovered consciousness conscious-ness after the operation, and died at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon. The body was taken to Evans' undertaking parlors, par-lors, where It will be prepared for burial. |
