Show FILIPINO WINS IN THE U. S. SUPREME COURT Washington. Feb. 24. In an opinion by Justice Holmes, the supreme court of the United States yesterday decided decid-ed the case of Mateo Carlno vs. tho government of the Phlllpplnes.agalnst the government. The case grew out of a controversy over the title to a tract occupied as a military reservation reserva-tion in Benguet, which was claimed by Carlno through possessions covering cov-ering thirty years. Ho had not registered reg-istered his claim and had received no title from the government and the insular court decided that mere possession pos-session would not give title. That position was reversed by today's decision. de-cision. Tho justice said the United Slates had taken possession of tho Philippines Philip-pines in a different spirit from Spaln'B. "We must do Justice to the natives and cannot exploit tholr lands for private pri-vate gains." he declared.
