Show 'PROMINENT OFFICIALS ARRIVE PRESIDENT McCREA OF PENNSYLVANIA PENN-SYLVANIA ROAD HERE. Local Railroad Officials Are Puzzled Over the Meaning cf the Visit of the Strangers. The Union Pacific special train, carrying car-rying President McCrea and prominent prom-inent officials of the Pennsylvania railroad system over the Harrlman lines to the "Pacific coast, arrived from the east this afternoon, and the future moemcnts of the paity have not yet been announced. The distinguished dis-tinguished railroad visitors w-ere accompanied ac-companied to this city by General Manager Mohler of the Union Pacific compan and by Superintendent Whitney Whit-ney of the Utah division of , that road. During the trip from Omaha to Ogden Og-den brief stops were made at the more prominent division points of tho road, and the general operating methods meth-ods of the system were pretty thoroughly thor-oughly Inspected by the visitors. . The party will leave this evening for Salt Lake Cltv under the escort of General Superintendent Davis of the Oregon Short Line and. returning to Ogden, continue west over the Southern South-ern Pacific Thursday morning In order or-der to -inspect the Ogden Lucln cutoff cut-off during the hours of daylight. Superintendent Mnnson will escort the visitors over the Salt Lake division divis-ion to Sparks, on a special, where the train will be met by representatives of General Manager Calvin and taken to San Francisco. The elaborate attention shown the visitors Is attracting comment among railroad officials, and many of them are wondering whether there may be any significance attached to the Visit and apparently close Inspection of the' Harrlman system at this time. |
