Show TWO CHALLENGES FOR BIG AUTOMOBILE RACES J. C. Jensen in a Cadillac Will Compete With J. W. Duffin in a Buick Roadster Denny Smyth Offers to Defeat Any White Steamer of the Browning Bros. Prizes for the Decoration Day Events. Replying to the challenge of Brown-I Brown-I ing Btos., Denny Smyth, with his Packard, model 1909, will race against any White Steamer.; that the Brow ning n-ing Bros, own, have bought .or have sold, the contest to be for 10. miles. The committee 'which has' in charge the automobile race meet, met at the Weber Club last night ,and arranged for the prizes to be' awarded . to the winners. Another' feature ofthe day's races will be an automobile slow race. This is not the easiest kind of a race to j win as it might appear. The con-! con-! testants will have to start with speed, levers set in high gear. And they will lose out if they change the lever or "kill" the engine. This race will re-quire re-quire a judge to accompany each ear I and will furnish a lot of sport. The champion 'slow driver will receive a gold medal properly inscribed. . J. C. Jensen has accepted the challenge chal-lenge of J. W. Duffin for a five-mile race and side bet of $25. Jensen will drive a Cadillac roadster and Duffin a Buick roadster. Both are fast cars and both good drivers. This ought to prove one of the most exciting' races ever witnessed. Ralph Grange, one of the cleverest and best-known drivers, has applied for entry blanks. It is not known what car he will enter, but it will be a good one and the grandstand will get a run for its money. The hour of the parade will be announced an-nounced later. It is expected that all the racing cars and all others in the city will take part in the parade which will be headed by a band In one of the big canyon machines. List of Races and Prizes. Second race, five-mile automobile, cars costing under $1,000 First prize,. $15; second prize, $10, Third race, ten miles, cars costing $1.00,0 to $2.000 First prize, $25; sec-one sec-one prize, cup. Fourth race, one-half mile slow race, for gasoline cars, no price limit Prize, gold medal. Fifth race, five miles, ears costing $2,000 up First prize, $25; second prize, cup. Sixth race, ladiesv all comers First prize, cup; second prize, gold medal. Special Races. Duflin-Jensen, special, five miles. $25 side bet. One-mile exhibition, all comers. |
