Show CHANGING CITY HALL SQUARE NEW FOUNTAIN WILL BE IN OP-ERATION OP-ERATION THIS EVENING. Hedge Will Be Cut Down and Trees Remored Plans of the Park Commission. The, city chain gangis at work today to-day in Central square. The heavy June grass, which at present llnea both sides of Hudson and Lake avenues, av-enues, is being removed before the seeds can be blown and; scattered about the lawns and adjoining- parks. - The irregular heaps of dirt and de-briB de-briB which have covered the lots adjoining ad-joining the fire station, as well as the ground formerly occupied by the stockade, will be leveled by the city prisoners and placed in presentable condition. Park. Commissioner Van der Schuit stated today that the new fountain in Central park would be in operation by evening. The fountain, of course, has not been completed, but water fixtures have been purchased for temporary tem-porary use, so that the basin may be filled and something of a display made until the water ornaments can be purchased and Installed. The recent re-cent appropriation by the city council coun-cil Includes enough, to cover tie cost of completing- the fountain. It is stated by the park commissioners commission-ers that the hedge now enclosing tho City Hall square Is to be removed in the near future, at least those portions por-tions extending along Washington avenue av-enue and Twenty-fifth street. The trees will also be trimmed In time for the encampment, and a row of a dozen or more maples will bo removed from the western side of the city hall grounds, as the trees are not needed for shade purposes. |
